Squish had the opportunity to share the exhibition Silkworm during the Fem Fest organized by WORM Rotterdam and KONTRA. The festival took place from the 3rd to the 8th of March 2021.
The exhibition: Silkworm introduces and questions ways used by queer artists to escape reality, or create a safe and dreamy bubble around them. As a reaction to the covid situation we are all experiencing, Squish wants to create a soothing space where queer artists could show how they deal with the isolation (resulting from both covid and heteronormativity). The artworks selected gather tenderness and strangeness; they result from an empowering and poetic process.
The festival: Fem Fest centers collectives, artists, activists, and groups who are striving to create inclusive spaces that allow feminist actions to flourish. The programme is filled with workshops, performances, panels, film screenings, and exhibits where we celebrate local and national strives towards gender equality and justice. Each day another artist collective takes over. KLAUW, Kiki Function, Pisswife, and RE#SISTER are all on board.
The virtual space where Silkworm and Transcending were shown are designed by Noemi Biro and Louisa.
